كما ذكرنا سابقاً فإن بعض الدول خصصت أياماً مختلفة للإحتفال بيوم الشاي العالمي. ويعود هذا الأمر إلى عام 2005 حيث اجتمعت الدول الأكثر إنتاجاً للشاي مثل سيريلانكا و إندونسيا للإحتفال باليوم العالمي للشاي في 21 مايو من كل عام ميلادي.
لماذا يُحتفل باليوم العالمي للشاي؟
للشاي أهمية اقتصادية كبيرة بما أنه بين أكثر 5 مشروبات استهلاكاً في العالم. وتقوم عليه أعمال كثيرة مثل المقاهي والإستراحات فلا يخلو مقهى من الشاي أبداً. ولأهميته الإقتصادية وحتى التاريخية خصصوا له يوماً من العام للإحتفال به وتوعية الناس بفوائد الشاي وأهميته.

تشتهر سيريلانكا بأن الشاي هو المحصول الأول فيها من بين كل دول العالم.
